  1. Plan & complete a training & practice expedition (4 days)
  2. Plan & complete your final expedition (3 days)

All expeditions require you to do the following:
    • Organise a group of between 4 and 7 participants, all of whom are working towards their Silver award (note: we recommend that groups consist of 6 participants; groups do not need to be single sex; groups of 4 are not advised)
    • Pick an aim for your expedition (there are some ideas for aims on the DofE website, here)
    • Plan a route - this must be 3 days & 2 nights long and in a challenging but lowland area, such as the New Forest, Forest of Dean or the South Downs; each day should be at least 7 hours long, of which at least 3½ hours must be walking, planned at a walking speed of either 3 or 4 kph (there is plenty of useful information on the DofE website, here)
    • Plan a menu for lunch and dinner on Day 1, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Day 2 and breakfast and lunch on Day 3, plus snacks - the meals must involve some preparation, so no Pot Noodles! (There is plenty of useful information on the DofE website, here, and there are some menu flashcards here)
    • Organise kit loan (there is plenty of useful information on the DofE website - an expedition kit list can be found here, while a guide to expedition kit can be found here) - if you would like to borrow any kit from CCOE, then there is a list of kit that we have available to lend out will appear here soon)
    • Complete your expedition
    • Organise a time to present your aim with the DofE leader at your site

Your final expedition also requires you to do the following:
    • Complete a successful practice expedition - a second practice expedition may be required if, for whatever reason, you have not yet shown that you are ready to undertake your final expedition
    • Organise a group that fits all the same criteria as your practice expedition, although it needn't be the same group of people
    • Plan a different route, although within the same criteria as your practice expedition
    • Implement any changes suggested as a result of your practice expedition
